Scholarships for Students with Disabilities

There is one application for all available scholarships for students with disabilities. Please indicate the scholarship(s) you are interested in on the application.

To apply for the scholarship, you must:

  • Have a documented disability
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0
  • Live in the Washtenaw County school district

With the application, you must submit the following:

  • A 150-word personal statement of your academic/career goals and any special circumstances describing why should receive a scholarship
  • Documentation of your disability
  • One - two letters of recommendation from an instructor, counselor, employer or professional. Letters cannot be from family members.

Application Deadline:

Scholarships are awarded for the Fall semester. Interested students submit an application by June 30 for the following academic year. Please ensure you are submitting a complete application with all required documents for consideration.

Learning Disabilities Association Scholarship

The Learning Disabilities Association Scholarship is available to students who will attend or are attending 十大彩票网赌平台, with preference given to high school seniors who expect to graduate at the end of the year. The award has a maximum value of $500

Burt Black Memorial Fund Scholarship

The Burt Black Memorial Fund Scholarship is available to high school seniors and current 十大彩票网赌平台 students who have physical and/or learning disabilities. The award is $500 for an academic year.

The Burt Black Memorial Fund was established in 2004 to honor Burt Black. He was a 1997 Huron High School graduate, a 十大彩票网赌平台 student, and a student at the University of Michigan majoring in sports management and communication. Despite significant physical and learning challenges throughout his life, Burt persevered. He pursued his dreams and worked diligently toward his goals.

Scholarship applicants must be students attending or planning to attend 十大彩票网赌平台 who have physical and/or learning disabilities and whose personal traits are consistent with the example that Burt set. Recipients are chosen on the basis of:

  • Personal traits of optimism, determination, courage, and a zest for life
  • Service to their community or school
  • Involvement in extracurricular school life
  • Academic success, as shown by a 2.0 or better GPA

Applicants who have both a physical and a learning disability receive priority.

Additional scholarships for students with disabilities are available and all student applications are assessed for eligibility.
